Utah Voices Begins Second Season Looking for More Voices
BOUNTIFUL, UT—A year ago, Dr. Michael Huff, Artistic Director of Utah Voices, was practically pacing the floor, wondering if anyone would show up voluntarily to sing in a new choir he planned to direct. He was pleasantly surprised that the choir room was filled to capacity and by the December performance of Handel’s Messiah, 170 voices filled Libby Gardner Concert Hall, garnering the praise of the press and the public alike. The successful process repeated itself as Utah Voices took on Carmina Burana juxtaposed against sacred numbers in last spring’s concert “Things Sacred and Profane,” called “an enthusiastic and generally well-polished performance ,” by Catherine Reese Newton (Salt Lake Tribune).
Utah Voices will begin their second season with Wednesday night rehearsals at South Davis Junior High School (298 W. 2600 S. Bountiful) at 7:30 p.m. starting on September 8. A November concert titled “Give Thanks” is slated to feature such pieces as “Song of Thanksgiving,” by Ralph Vaughan Williams and John Rutter’s “Te Deum and “Now Thank We” among others. Solo artist Cori Connors will also perform. “We want to invite more people who love to sing and have some singing experience to join us,” says Managing Director Juliann Peacock. She looks forward to another stellar season and hopes to also strengthen the numbers in Verux Vox Vocis, a small chamber choir comprised of singers who belong to Utah Voices.
Led by Huff and Associate Conductor Kelly DeHaan, Utah Voices does not require auditions. However “Vocis” features auditioned, accomplished vocalists who do most of their musical preparation on their own. For more information visit www.utahvoices.org
